Beskrivning This is a private AT Alabama pre-conference training open to health professionals, paraprofessionals, families, and advocates. The training will be held at: United Ability (Administration & Development Building) 100 Oslo Circle Birmingham, AL 35211 Sign-in will take place from 7:30 - 8:00 AM Central Time Optional hands-on practice will take place from 3:30 - 4:30 PM Central Time Course Description: This session explores comprehensive AAC solutions for individuals with acquired and progressive neurological conditions like ALS and aphasia. Discover how to implement efficiency tools that support authentic communication while helping AAC users maintain their unique personality and communicate effectively across all contexts — even when not face-to-face. You'll also learn about computer access considerations for people with ALS or anyone with limited mobility, with special focus on eye gaze implementation for optimal accuracy, efficiency, and autonomy. Learning Objectives Upon successful completion, participants will be able to: Identify 3 key considerations for selecting appropriate AAC supports for adults with aphasia or progressive diagnoses. Describe 2 ways efficiency features support effective communication for individuals with neurological conditions. List 3 strategies to maintain personal communication style when implementing AAC solutions. Explain 2 ways integrated communication and computer access solutions enhance independence and social connection. Identify 3 critical factors for successful eye gaze implementation. This training will be co-presented by Kristal Whiteside MS, CCC-SLP and Lauren Taylor MS, CCC-SLP.
